Brick by Brick, Autumn Finds Her Way Home

Autumn, a Lab and Facility Technician, is one step closer to a home of her own — a place where she, her three dogs, and two cats can finally settle in.

She learned about Green Country Habitat for Humanity while working with the Cherokee Nation on mortgage assistance, and the program transformed her path to homeownership.

“I did not know the home-buying process,” Autumn said. “I didn’t know what to do when you own a home. If it weren’t for the Habitat classes, I’d probably still be lost.” 

And while she’s excited for the stability of homeownership, there’s one part of her new home she treasures most: the brick veneer.

“My father used to be a bricklayer,” she shared. “So to see the brick be this really beautiful color… I can’t wait for him to see it. I think he’s really going to like it.”

Her advice to future homebuyers: “Keep in touch with the speakers, the educators, even your classmates. Use the information and the people you meet...and don’t get in a hurry. Take your time.”
