Country Roads, New Beginnings

Welcome home Demitri and Sydney — a young couple starting a new life with Habitat for Humanity in Wagoner.

Demitri, a welder with Andy Anderson Metal Works, and Sydney, a certified nursing assistant at Montereau, are looking forward to their future together. Married just a few years ago and now both 23, Demitri and Sydney have outgrown the one-bedroom apartment they share with their energetic border collie-lab mix. With their whole future ahead of them, they dreamed a living in a bigger home with a backyard, and enough room to grow as a family. Seeing this, Demitri’s mother encouraged the couple to start Habitat for Humanity’s Homebuyer Program.

From there, Demitri and Sydney began on a path that would make their dream a reality. They say they both really enjoyed the Homebuyer Program and the lessons they learned, particularly on money management. But when it came time to buy their Habitat home, Demitri and Sydney decided to leave Tulsa and move to Wagoner.

“I’m a country boy, I just love being in the country. It’s closer to the woods, lakes, and stuff like that” said Demitri with Sydney adding, “He loves the country. He loves to fish. He loves to hunt.”

Having moved into their new home, the two are imaging their life in their new home while reflecting on their journey that made this all possible. For future homeowners, they have this advice: start finding ways to save money now, be patient with the process, and stay committed.

Congratulations Demitri and Sydney, and special thanks to Tulsa Teachers Credit Union for helping make the dream of homeownership a reality.
