Embracing a Fresh Start as a Habitat Homeowner

After some major life changes, including divorce and leaving a home of decades, Kisha decided it was time to start a new chapter and buy a place of her own.

She began researching the housing market, only to discover that inflation and escalating mortgage rates had put an "affordable" home entirely out of reach. She contacted the Cherokee Tribe, of which she is a member, who referred her to Green Country Habitat as a good avenue for down payment assistance and a high-quality home at a rate she could afford.

With guidance from our financial literacy training, Kisha was able to pay off debt, increase her credit scores, and save the 1% down payment she needed to purchase a Habitat home.

She's closing this week on a brand new, energy-efficient, 3 bed/2 bath home, and we couldn't be happier for her. Congratulations Kisha!
