Tayler and Hannah Build Their Future with Habitat in Wagoner

Buying a home was something this young couple felt was in their future, and thanks to a family member, they found out it was closer than they imagined. A family member previously volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and told Tayler and Hannah about the Homebuyer Program. Seeing an opportunity they couldn’t pass up, the two applied and were accepted. 

Tayler and Hannah make the program sound simple and straightforward, and from their point of view, it really was. 

“Kaelen and Rachel [in the Homeowner Services team], they made the program very easy to get through, and they explained everything along the way,” said Tayler. “It was an awesome experience.” 

Coming from Bixby, Tayler says he and Hannah wanted something that fit their personality. 

“We just really like the hometown feel that Wagoner had,” he said. “And this property was beautiful, so, we decided to end up here in Wagoner.”

The home is also far more accessible than the apartment they were living in, a much-welcomed improvement for Hannah. She's looking forward to growing her green thumb after taking Habitat's lawn care class, taught by OSU Master Gardeners.  

“I loved going to the lawn care class,” she said. “I do not have a green thumb, but I really, really want to. They had a lot of great tips, and that was my favorite part.” 

Tayler still works as a Retail Manager in Tulsa, and he says the distance shouldn’t stop future Habitat homeowners from considering Wagoner. 

“I'll still be making the commute every day to work in the Woodland Hills area, so that's definitely not a bad commute at all,” Tayler said. “It's all highway, and there's a turnpike available, so I definitely wouldn't let that discourage you for moving to the wider area.” 

Their advice for future homeowners, give yourself time to get through the program, have an open mind, and know that Habitat’s team is willing to do anything to help you.”
