Yard, Movies, and Memories

Join us in extending a warm welcome to Theresa, our newest Habitat homeowner. A 53-year-old mother of four and grandmother of 12, Theresa is a Tulsa Transit driver who has realized her dream of home ownership through hard work and determination.

Theresa took advantage of our homebuyer education classes to not only improve her own financial habits, but also to inspire her younger family members and friends to start working on their credit and saving for their own homes. As she put it, “It took me 53 years. Come on, y’all can do it.”

Theresa is excited to make this house a home, especially for her 15-year-old granddaughter who will be living with her. Her granddaughter, who loves to draw, is looking forward to decorating her new room however she wants.

When asked about her favorite feature of the house, Theresa immediately said, “The yard!” She plans to put it to good use by creating a magical “movie theater” for her family, complete with a projector, blankets, and popcorn. She cherishes these moments, explaining that after losing her own mother at a young age, she is committed to staying close to her family and creating a space for them to make memories.

Special thanks to Firstar Bank for providing her affordable mortgage.
