After years of moving from apartment to apartment, Myricco knew what he was looking for. A place for him and his daughter to call home, where they wouldn't have to jump through hoops or wonder what comes next. What they call their own little piece of the American dream.
“It’s new beginnings, new life,” said Myricco’s daughter. “I get to restart, refresh, and not have to worry about crazy stuff happening.”
Myricco first heard about Green Country Habitat for Humanity from a coworker who was already going through the process. A little encouragement was all it took. He went to an orientation, got everything in motion, and never looked back.
The road to homeownership wasn’t without its challenges. When he started the program, his credit needed some work. But with guidance from Habitat’s counselors, he got a clear roadmap that included steps to repair his credit and reduce his debt to reach a place where he comfortably qualified.
“They gave me the structure and steps I needed to take to get my credit fixed, get my debt down to qualify,” he says. “And here we are.”
He credits Habitat’s homebuyer education as one of the most valuable parts of the experience, saying it taught him things he didn’t even know he needed to know.
Now, standing in their own home, it’s the little things that mean the most. Myricco is excited for the garage and the closet space, while his daughter loves the bathroom for its lighting and mirror, a must for any aspiring TikToker.
