A Fresh Start for Lakesha

For years, Lakesha worked hard, cared for her family, and dreamed of a place to call her own. Encouraged by her youngest son, she decided it was time to begin her homeownership journey.

The path wasn’t easy. Before qualifying, Lakesha paid off two vehicle loans and hospital bills, staying focused on her goal despite the challenges. “It was a long journey, very long,” she said.

Today, Lakesha is a first-time homeowner and couldn’t be happier. She loves every part of her new home, especially the porch, where she can relax and enjoy time with her family. Her three grandchildren—ages 10, 9, and 1—now have a place to gather, making the home even more special.

Along the way, Lakesha completed her sweat equity and homeowner education classes. Money Management 1 became her favorite class, teaching her new financial skills she plans to use for years to come.

Her advice for future Habitat homebuyers is simple: “It’s worth it. It’s well worth it.”
