From Childhood Friends to First-Time Homeowners

For Dejavu and Jaluan, homeownership is the next chapter in a story that began years ago.

Although both now work at Amazon, the couple didn’t meet on the job. They’ve known each other since childhood, building a relationship that eventually led them to pursue a future together. Before purchasing their Habitat home, they were living in a one-bedroom apartment and dreaming of having more space for the life they wanted to build.

After hearing about Habitat for Humanity through a family member, they decided to apply. Jaluan describes the experience as smooth from start to finish. From working with Habitat staff to completing sweat equity hours and homeowner education classes, the process helped prepare them for success as homeowners.

One class stood out in particular. Jaluan appreciated learning more about budgeting and managing money, skills that will help them as they settle into their new home.

Today, they’re excited about what the future holds. For Dejavu, the home represents a place to grow their family and create lasting memories together. ”Having a family here,” she said, is what she’s looking forward to most.

They already have favorite features of their new home. Dejavu loves the spacious living room, while Jaluan, a car enthusiast, is especially excited about having a garage of his own.

Their advice for future Habitat homebuyers is simple: be patient. The process can take time, but both agree that the reward is worth the wait.

As they begin this new chapter, they have a message they’d like to share: “Thank you, Habitat.”
