Meet the Garcia Family

Newlyweds Alex and Ariana Garcia were just married in July, 2019, but Alex put a plan in place long ago to give his bride the ultimate wedding gift: a new home.

Alex learned about Tulsa Habitat for Humanity at a young age, since his parents graduated from the program, and he spent part of his childhood living in a Tulsa Habitat home. He remembers working alongside his mom and dad to make their dream of homeownership a reality. Alex also remembers the home he lived in before, which had holes in the floors and walls.

When Alex began thinking of putting down roots and starting a family of his own, he thought building a home with Tulsa Habitat might be an excellent way for him to create a stable future. Luckily, he was able to turn to his parents for advice.

“My parents told me about the program and explained how much time and effort it would take,” says Alex. “I decided it was something I wanted to do.”

The busy young professional was accepted into the program and immediately began logging volunteer hours and taking money management classes, scheduling around his full-time job.

“The program has been a lot of hard work, but I knew it would be worth it for me to realize a dream that would have been impossible just a few years ago,” Alex says. “This home will be a perfect place for my new wife and I to start our new life.”
