Meet Daniela Torres
Daniela Torres, 32, has lived in Tulsa since 2011. Originally from Mexico, she moved to the city with daughter Daphne and her sister, mother and father.
Daniela lives the life of a busy single mother who works full-time as a project coordinator at ResourceOne, helps her daughter with homework and cooks dinner nightly for her daughters Daphne, 11, and Dianna, 1.
Daniela heard about Tulsa Habitat for Humanity from a work colleague who was in the middle of the home approval process with the organization. Once she learned how the organization worked, she attended her first class, filled out an application and qualified.
“I’ve lived in the same apartment complex since I moved to Tulsa in 2011, and I am ready to move out and do my own thing,” says Daniela. “But I have no credit, so I’ve never qualified to buy a house before.”
Daniela says she is most excited about owning a home because it will make life easier. Her family of three currently shares a one-bedroom apartment. The limited space means that Daphne is unable invite friends over to play, nor can the family have a pet.
“There’s a lot of things that my daughter Daphne has wanted for a long time, but I’ve always told her no, we can’t do it,” Daniela says. “There are lots of projects we would like to do together. We can go outside and play in our back yard. Owning a home will help us a lot with bonding and spending time together.”
