Meet the Collins Family

This year will be one the Collins family will not soon forget. After years of renting, Cherelle Collins and her children will finally move into a home of their own.

A lifelong Tulsan, Cherrelle works as a Dietary Aide at Hillcrest Hospital. Homeownership has been a longtime goal for Cherrelle, and staying in Tulsa, where the majority of her family lives, was a priority. “I definitely feel like I have a community here,” she says.

With homeownership on the horizon, it’s a time of significant change for the Collins family. This sense of change is what Cherrelle’s eldest son, Jurayl, is most excited for as the family prepares to move into their new home. “I think I’m excited most to experience a new place,” he says.

For Brielle, age 6, the most exciting thing about having a home is decorating her room. She has already begun planning what hers will look like.

For Cherrelle, however, the prospect of homeownership is significant in different way. “It’s important to have something to call your own,” she says. “But for me, the most important thing is being able to pass down this legacy to my kids.”
