Building Hope: 600 Homes and Counting!
Since 1988, Green Country Habitat for Humanity has been committed to one mission: building quality, energy-efficient, affordable homes and helping families across Northeast Oklahoma achieve the dream of homeownership.
For the past 36 years, this mission has guided everything we do. We understand the lasting, generational impact of homeownership—better educational outcomes, improved health, and the creation of wealth that can be passed down to the next generation. Affordable homeownership builds a legacy of strength, stability, and self-reliance, not only for the families that purchase Habitat homes but also for the entire community.
Growing to Serve More Families
A recent report highlighted that "the cost of buying a home in Tulsa County has increased by more than $100,000 over the past four years." The Tulsa Planning Office reported that average home prices in the county have risen by 50% since 2020—an increase of around $117,000, bringing the average price to over $350,000.
For many first-time homebuyers, this surge has made homeownership feel out of reach. Now, a significant percentage of Tulsans qualify for a Habitat home based on income alone.
In response, Green Country Habitat is increasing the number of homes we build each year to help meet this growing need. We know that many hardworking families paying rent could successfully transition to homeownership with the right opportunity and guidance.
We’ve grown from building just a couple of homes each year to dozens. In 2023, we completed 62 new homes, and we’re on track to build 90 more in the coming year.
Why We Build
Every home we build transforms lives. Affordable homeownership is about more than just a house—it’s about creating a stable foundation for families to thrive and succeed. It’s about helping parents provide a better future for their children and contributing to stronger, more vibrant communities.
600 Homes…and Counting
We recently celebrated a major milestone: the completion of our 600th home. This moment reflects our ongoing commitment to Northeast Oklahoma and inspires us to keep building. Right now, we’re completing Phase II construction at Whittier Townhomes, a 23-unit development in Tulsa’s historic Kendall-Whittier neighborhood. Construction is also underway at the 25-unit Black Wall Street Square development, and we’re breaking ground on Wilshire Trails, a new 30-home neighborhood near Hawthorne Elementary in North Tulsa. We also have plans to expand our efforts in Broken Arrow, Claremore, and Wagoner, OK.
Let’s Keep Building Together
None of this would be possible without the incredible support from our community. Every donation, large or small, helps us continue building affordable homes and offering financial education to prepare future homeowners for success.
In honor of our 600th home, we invite you to help us keep building by making a one-time donation of $600 or a recurring monthly donation of just $50. Together, we can continue to help more families realize the dream of homeownership and strengthen our community for generations to come.
